Product Description
A continuing and on-going drama, LSU football is a string of improbable victories and sometimes valiant defeats, and within Game Of My Life: LSU Tigers the players responsible for perpetual story lift the curtain on their greatest acts. Here are the accounts of almost three dozen of the most remembered Tiger games of the last eight decades, as seen through the eyes?and from the memories?of some of LSU's most remembered athletes. Award-winning author and Louisiana-native Marty Mul? takes you from the jumpy Ken Kavanaugh, a decorated bomber pilot who, in 1939, was nervous on his first plane ride en route to his four-touchdown day against Eastern-power Holy Cross; to the backdrop of Hurricane Katrina and JaMarcus Russell's last-gasp, game-winning touchdown pass against Arizona State for the displaced Bayou Bengals. In between, you hear from Billy Cannon as he decided to break a team rule and return a deep punt against Ole Miss.
About The Author
Now a freelance writer, Marty Mulé was a member of The New Orleans Times-Picayune sports staff for more than 30 years, covering college sports in general and LSU athletics in particular as a reporter and columnist for much of that time.
As a sports-loving youngster, later as a student-reporter for LSUs Daily Reveille, and, later still as a professional sportswriter, he was on the scene when many of the Tigers on these pages were playing what they consider the games of their lives.
Mulé has been the recipient of a half-dozen first-place national writing awardsmost of anyone, sports or news, in the almost 170-year history of The Times-Picayunefrom such organizations as The Associated Press Sports Editors, Football Writers of America, and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. His works have been cited several times as the "Story of the Year" by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association and the New Orleans Press Club, even over traditional news coverage. By vote of his peers, Mulé has also been named Louisianas "Sportswriter of the Year"11 times.
This is his sixth book, and his second on LSU. The first was Eye of the Tiger, 100 Years of LSU Football. The others include: Sugar Bowl, the First 50 Years; Rolling Green, a Century of Tulane Football; Superdome, Thirteen Acres That Changed New Orleans; and Louisiana Athletes: The Top 20.
Mulé is a graduate of Louisiana State University.
