About The Author
Shirl Kasper -- A former reporter and editor for The Kansas City Star who holds a master's degree in history from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. She is now doing work on a Ph.D. in history at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo. She is the author of ``Annie Oakley,'' a hardover biography of the sharpshooter published in 1992 by the University of Oklahoma Press.
Rick Montgomery is a national correspondent for The Kansas City Star. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Iowa State University.
